How It Works

Registering your vehicle with MyGermanCar

From the moment you decide to register your vehicle with MyGermanCar, we are on hand to support you and navigate you through the process. It is a straightforward process and typically takes only a few days. The process is outlined below...

Step 1: You purchase your vehicle

The first step, you find and buy your vehicle. We are not really involved much in this step.

Ensure the seller de-registers the car as part of the sales process.

Once the vehicle is deregistered from the former owner, we can register the vehicle.

As you decide on your vehicle, we can obtain a competitive insurance quote for you, as covered in the next step...

Step 2: Insurance & Tax

As you are negotiating the purchase of your vehicle, we will find you a competitive insurance quote and calculate your vehicle tax.

As your car is registered to our company, we settle these fees for you and pass these charges on to you.

You can get basic, partial and fully comprehensive insurance from AXA insurance in Germany.

If you have specific requests, we can get a custom insurance policy for you that covers only what you need. For example, you can get cover for theft/fire/weather damage but not accidents, which is cheaper than fully comprehensive, which includes accident damage. We will find you a quote that suits your needs.

Step 3: Send us your documents

We will arrange for a courier to collect your documents from you or the car dealer.

We usually need the Teil 1 and Teil 2 document. Sometimes we can do digital registration, in which case we only need the codes from your document and you don't need to send us anything by mail.

If your car is not German registered but it is EU registered then we will require the Certificate of Conformity (CoC) and a technical inspection that conforms to EU Directive 2014/45/EU (or a German inspection, knowns as a TÜV)

Step 4

Once we receive your documents, we proceed to the registration office to register your vehicle in our company name (MyAuto Europe UG).

Depending on your vehicle this can take up to 6 working days. Once your registration is complete we collect your new T2 document and the original T1. We then get your new German license plates pressed.

Then, we package up the documents, your registration stickers and the new plates, so they are ready to send back to you

Step 5: Receive your plates

Your new license plates and documents will be shipped back to you. You will also receive your official registration and inspection stickers, that stick on to your license plates. We can arrange delivery to wherever the car is, be that at your own address or at the German dealership where you bought the car. Simply attach the plates and you are good to go! Fully registered, insured and free to drive throughout Europe. And all completed without needing your own address in Germany!

During your registration you will subscribe to one of our plans e.g. EuroDrive that costs €99/month. German insurance and tax is typically cheaper than other countries in Europe, which means that many of our clients save thousands in annual costs using our service, even after taking into account our monthly service fee.
